Homework

General Homework for the months of August and September. For reminders on nightly homework, please sign-up for my  REMIND 101 text messages.

Math and social studies will be taught by Anyea Gibson

ELA and science will be taught by Amber Miller

Reading- Students are  expected to read every night. You will need to read in order to complete a weekly reading box. Students will be required to  complete one box this nine weeks in their reading notebook. Notebooks are due every Friday, but my be turned in early. Students are required to attain their reading goal each nine weeks. Reading goals are set based on your child's individual reading level. Accelerated Reading points are not the only way your child can reach their reading goal. Reading goals requirements will be based on your child's reading level. If you have questions about your child's reading goal requirement, please contact Amber Miller. 


Reading test are held on Fridays. Students are given a study guide on Tuesdays and we go over them on Thursdays. Students who complete the study guide are allowed to use them on the test. Students who do not, are not penalized, but do not get to be in the room when we go over it.


Math-  We will begin this nine weeks learning about place value.

Science- Students will start the year learning about properties of matter.

Social Studies- We will learn about various Native American Tribes and their contribution to America.

Vocabulary-
As stated before, in fifth grade we focus on the meaning of the word rather than the spelling of the word. Students will be given their vocabulary words on Monday. Vocabulary notebooks are due each Monday, but may be turned in early. Students should complete THREE boxes COMPLETELY to receive credit.Vocabulary test will be held on Monday. Students will normally have between 25 and 30 words to match with the correct definition.
