COVID-19 Plans

Plans during the COVID-19 Pandemic NC Governer's Executive Order of School Closures and Stay at Home Order

Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,

From March 16th-March 27th, during the non-instructional optional teacher workdays, each speech-language student was provided supplementary March calendars with daily activities that addressed general speech, language and communication skills.

Starting March 30th, with the first day of instructional e-learning plan, I will try to contact each speech-language student's parent or guardian to arrange a specific once or twice a week schedule of therapy time that will be held via Google Meet/Hangout or by phone.  Since students are receiving approximately 1/3 of their regular education instructional time, IEP service delivery will also be approximately 1/3 of their weekly scheduled therapy time.  For example, if a student is scheduled to receive services twice a week for 30 minutes each session, he/she will be scheduled to receive services twice a week for 10 minutes each session, or once a week for 20 minutes each session during this period of school closure.  Students will be provided with packets of individualized materials that address specific speech and/or language objectives within their IEPs.   Those are available to pick up at the school between 8:00AM-3:00PM Monday, March 30th.  These individualized packets have  activities for students to practice at home.  Some of these activities may be familiar tasks we have done before in class.  Other activities might be new.   I will not be collecting any of this work later.  It is only for you to keep at home and practice.  During the scheduled Google Hangout therapy time, we might do some of these home folder activities together.

If you need my help at any time, please feel free to email me at [email protected].  I have also provided a phone number in the home packet.   My typical home office hours during this school closure will be from 8:00AM-3:30PM Monday-Friday.  However, if you need to contact me, feel free to call or text me at the number in the home packet at any time.  I will do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, feel free to explore my FUN WEBSITES FOR SPEECH AND LANGUAGE page, which is full of activities to help you practice good communication skills during this time away from school.

Please stay safe and healthy.  I hope to see all of my speech-language students very soon!

Sincerely,
Ms. Love
