We will be hands on scientists
as we explore the forces of motion,
our Earth and moon, Earth materials,
and the needs of animals and plants.

We will invite community helpers into our classroom
to see how our community works.

We will create together at school and at home.  We will join together for Family Fridays to share our  STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) creations!

We will share our similarities and celebrate our differences to create our own caring classroom community together.

We will use literature and technology
to connect to  communities around the world.

Together we will explore the math around us!

Saving the best for last….
we will travel around the world, meet interesting people, animals, and other characters, we will find out about our world and pretend worlds, and go on many adventures, all through our reading!!!

We will become writers, directors, and actors and use technology to answer our questions and create our own stories.

What an exciting year we have ahead of us!

Please check those backpacks each night
for important information from our First Grade day.

See you in class!

Lisa Hatfield

Hello!  My name is Lisa Hatfield.

I love teaching first graders at Viewmont!
I have been teaching 1st Grade at Viewmont since 2010!  As we say in First Grade, Teaching is a passion, not a job!  We work hard every day in First Grade and love having volunteers in to help during our small group literacy or tutor students in math or reading.  Please email me if you are interested in volunteering!
I've lived in Hickory since 2000.  I am married and have two daughters.    I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, taking walks, reading, and planning our next trip.

I look forward to working together to build lifelong learners who love to read!
