I am a thirty year veteran of NC public education. I attended Appalachian State University, where I majored in Social Studies Education. I graduated in 1989 and began my teaching career at HM Arndt Middle School as an exceptional childrens' teacher. In 1991, I went to Freedom High School, where I taught social studies and coached women's basketball for seven years. During my time at Freedom, I earned a Masters Degree in School Administration from Gardner Webb University, graduating in 1998. In 1998, I returned to Catawba County Schools as an Assistant Principal at St. Stephens High School. In 2000, I became the Assistant Principal of Instruction at Mooresville High School. In 2007, I became the principal of China Grove Elementary School and remained there until I came to Hickory Public Schools in 2013 as the principal of Southwest Elementary School. In 2015, I earned a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Gardner Webb University and was named Principal of the Year for Hickory Public Schools.
I am married to my husband, Steve, and have two grown step children and two grandchildren. Additionally, I have a host of nieces and nephews, and now, great nieces and nephews. I like to travel, read, spend time with my family, and do photography.
