Hello My Name Is...

Tonya Byrd

Welcome!  Thanks for stopping by to visit my page.  Winter has definitely arrived!  Is there anything better on a cold afternoon that snuggling up with a good book?  There are many to choose from!

It has been a fantastic year so far!  We are gearing up to assess our students for the middle of the year.  By the end of January, your child's teacher will have some current data to share to discuss your child's growth.  Be sure to look for conference information in your child's Tuesday folders.

Did you know reading aloud is one of the best reading activities you can do to help your child be a successful reader?  When you read to your child, you are modeling fluency; you are developing their vocabulary; and if you talk about the book after you finish, you are helping them to comprehend what they read!  If you have a kindergarten through second grade student, these pre-reading skills are crucial for becoming a fluent reader.

But wait, studies show that reading aloud to older children can also improve their reading skills.  You can  also read a book together, each reading a page or chapter, to help strengthen their accuracy, fluency, and  comprehension!

Take some time to find out topics that interest your child, then visit the library to get started!

Sincerely,

Tonya Byrd
