Dual Language Immersion Program

Ask us about the Dual Language Immersion program continuing at Viewmont Elementary School for the 2021-2022 school year.  Program enrollment is for rising kindergarten students. Dual language classes are bilingual classes where native-English speakers and native-Spanish speakers learn together with the goal of being proficient in both languages.  If you are interested in learning more, please call our office to request more information or speak with someone about this exciting program and opportunity for rising kindergarten students.

Ready4K is a program developed at Stanford University that sends text messages to your phone to help you prepare your child for kindergarten.   The text tips focus on early language and literacy development.  You can choose the language in which you would like to receive the tips.  You will receive three tips a week.  You can sign up for Ready4K by texting

The tips are free, but text messaging charges may apply, depending on your phone plan.

DUAL LANGUAGE

Come and learn about
the dual language immersion program
at Viewmont Elementary School

These information sessions are
for rising kindergarten students
and will be done in a ZOOM format.

Depending on the turnout,
more information sessions may
be added in April and May.

RETURN TO LEARN UPDATE
The HPS Board of Education
approved the following:

4th and 5th grade will begin
Plan A on
Monday, February 16.
This means that these students will
now join all elementary grades,
attending school FOUR days each week
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday.
For now, Wednesdays remain
as remote-learning days for all.
If your child is already in remote-learning
on a full-time basis,
then that option may continue.

HPS is HIRING!
IMMEDIATE NEED:

Hickory Public Schools is hiring
19 long-term, full-time substitute teachers
to help with staffing for “in-person” learning
for the remainder of this school year. 
Two long-term substitute teachers
will be hired for each of the eight schools
(elementary, middle, and HCAM)
with three long-term substitute teachers
hired for Hickory High.
