Week of April 24th-28th

Viewmont is proud of our 5th grade district-wide award winners at the International Children's Film Festival on Monday, March 24th.  These students created posters during art class with Mrs. Denise Knowles and were awarded checks for their outstanding talent and effort.   From left to right, Elemo Mumed (Honorable Mention), Daniel Rodriguez (3rd place), Jaretzy Hernandez-Luna (2nd place).  Way to go, 5th graders!

Our 5th grade classes enjoyed their field trip to Raleigh.  Ms. Gibson's 5th graders learned a lot about our state's government and history.

4th graders visited Grandfather Mountain and Linville Caverns.  Students from Ms. Hord's class bravely crossed the bridge at Grandfather Mountain.

Dance 2016-2017
The Viewmont Dance Company practices every Friday afternoon after school and is comprised of two teams.   Our Paw Power team is our 5th grade team, choreographed and coached by Ms. Jennifer Love.   Our Bear Foot Motion team is our 4th grade team, choreographed and coached by Ms. Anyea Gibson.  This is our 13th year of having a dance team at Viewmont Elementary.   The Viewmont Dance Company was originally established to help our 4th and 5th grade students develop an appreciation of the art and many styles of dance while also learning leadership skills, team-building skills, responsibility and self-discipline.  Both teams would like to invite you to our end of the school year recital on Friday, May 19th at 6:00PM in the Viewmont Elementary Gym.

Battle of the Books Author

Our Viewmont Battle of the Books team visited Alan Gratz, an author of one of the books on our list, A League of Seven. The Patrick Beaver Library sponsored his visit and all the elementary and middle school teams got to hear him talk and sign autographs.

Dr. Seuss Week
Viewmont celebrated a week of reading with the Scholastic Book Fair and Dr. Seuss Spirit week.  Each class decorated their door and students and staff participated in a week of festivities celebrating Dr. Seuss.

Week of Feb.13th-17th


Fourth grade has been studying African American heroes.  Students have been working on their project for a week and a half to decide on an influential African American, research that person, and create a banner with all of the information. They also received extra credit if they dressed as their hero. We had countless heroes - Harriet Tubman, Martin Luther King, Jr., Colin Powell, Barack and Michelle Obama, Ruby Bridges, and many others. Pictured on the left are students who dressed up as Fannie Lou Hamer, Michael Jackson, Barack Obama, and Harriet Tubman.  Pictured on the right are Mrs. Wright and Nalaysia Staton dressed as Harriet Tubman.

Week of Nov. 28th - Dec. 2nd :

Viewmont students enjoy fun lessons in the classroom and outdoor adventures on the playground!
Week of Nov. 21st-22nd:

In Ms. Hord's 4th grade classroom, each student created their own North Carolina Cherokee Native American project.  Students were able to choose between a poster, diorama, Powerpoint, or scrapbook to describe the daily life of a Cherokee Indian.  They each did an extraordinary job creating these projects!  A lot of time and effort was put into them.

ESL Parent Night on Tuesday, November 15th was a huge success!


Week of Nov.7th-11th:

On Election Day, Mrs. Milstead's class voted to elect their classroom candy.   Blowpops and Tootsie Rolls were on the ballot.  What a great way to learn about our national voting rights and government election process!

Ms. Hord's class studied "Prehistoric North Carolina." The students worked in groups to create a poster and had to include information about the villages, basket makers, tools, the Three Sisters, when and why they came to North Carolina. They did an excellent job working together and even completed rubrics for themselves and their group.  Great job, 4th graders!
